Sunshine, friends and an island pub

A lovely spring walk on the South Devon coast with Kay Burry and Barry.

On 31 March 2026, I joined my friends Kay Burry and Barry for a lovely circular hike from Ringmore to Burgh Island and back. We parked in the small, free car park in Ringmore before setting off.

The weather was warm with plenty of sunshine, making it a wonderful day to be out enjoying the coast together. Coastal views, beaches and green hillsides provided plenty of opportunities for photographs along the way.

At Burgh Island, we visited the Pilchard Inn — a welcome stop and my recommended pub for this walk. A coastal hike with friends and an island pub along the way is a rather good combination.

We then made our way back to Ringmore, completing around eight miles in total. A thoroughly enjoyable day of fresh air, sunshine and good company.

John’s Verdict

A lovely eight-mile hike with Kay Burry and Barry, warm sunshine and a visit to the Pilchard Inn. A memorable day on the South Devon coast.
